Best Christmas Jokes

Today is sunny and warm Christmas in Indonesia. I'm at Mozes Kilangin Airport Timika (TIM) on the way to Denpasar Bali (DPS) with Garuda Indonesia GA-653 to celebrate Christmas with my family from Yogyakarta (JOG). But no Christmas is complete without some terrible cracker jokes, and this one is my favourite.

It's a romantic full moon in Bali, Indonesia, when Slamet said, "Hey Sri, let's do Weeweechu."

"Oh no, not now, let's look at the moon!" said Rosita.

"Oh, c'mon baby, let's you and I do Weeweechu. I love you and it's the perfect time," Slamet begged.

"But I wanna just hold your hand and watch the moon." replied Sri.

"Please, darling, just once, do Weeweechu with me."

Sri looked at Slamet and said, "OK, one time, we'll do Weeweechu."

Slamet grabbed his guitar and they both sang...

"Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year."

I wish you happy holidays full of warmth. To the moments of reflection for a moment to stop and see what you can not see the go - a simple joy because Jesus was born for us.

Missing hccutils.dll and igfxtray.exe Windows 8.1 Pro Samsung Series 9

After upgraded to Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro, my Samsung Series 9 got error missing hccutils.dll and igfxtray.exe and then the VGA driver software rollback to Windows basic driver. I tried to find Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver for Samsung Series 9 and there is no new driver in Samsung that already support Windows 8.1. So I downloaded the latest driver for Windows 8.1 from Intel Download Center and extract the ZIP version because the EXE version won’t install the driver to my Samsung Series 9. The EXE version always ask me to download from manufacturer website (Samsung) and there is no new version of driver in Samsung website like I wrote before.
From This PC in Windows Explorer, right click and select Properties.
01_thispc
Go to Device Manager
02_device_manager
Select Display Adapters: Intel ® HD Graphics 4000 then right click and select Update Driver Software.
03_update_driver
Select Browse my computer for driver software and select folder where the extracted version of Intel HD Graphics 4000 located.
03_browse_driver
Then the new version of driver successfully installed and the error gone.

Windows 8.1 BSOD DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (ndis.sys)

After upgrade my Samsung Series 9 with Windows 8.1, I got blue screen error DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (ndis.sys). I suppose that the problem was in network driver. After tried to reinstall network driver, the same problem was still there.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL_ndis.sys

Then I tried to uninstall Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 and everything going normal. Then I upgrade old KIS 2013 to KIS 2014 and my Windows 8.1 work like a charm.

Do you have similar problem with me?

Minimum Number of Pages Required for Google Adsense

How many pages required by Google for Adsense? I'm not Adsense expert but sometimes my friends who learn to create a web page ask me about Adsense to earn money for ads placement in their websites.

Google don't give the minimum amount of pages required to join Adsense, but it is important that Google need pages with high quality content. The website must contains plenty of rich information that includes relevant keywords, used appropriately, that indicate the subject matter of the content.

The website that may will be banned from Google Adsense include:

Autogenerated content
Automatically generated content is content that’s been generated by computer program or script. Often this will consist of paragraphs of random text that makes no sense to the reader but which may contain search keywords.

Doorway pages
Doorway pages are typically large sets of poor-quality pages where each page is optimized for a specific keyword or phrase. In many cases, doorway pages are written to rank for a particular phrase and then funnel users to a single destination.

  • Having multiple domain names targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page
  • Templated pages made solely for affiliate linking
  • Multiple pages on your site with similar content designed to rank for specific queries like city or state names

Scraped content and thin affiliate sites
Scaped content is content taken from other sites to increase the volume of pages on a website. Example of thin affiliate sites:

  • Sites that copy and republish content from other sites without adding any original content or value
  • Sites that copy content from other sites, modify it slightly (e.g.: by substituting synonyms or using automated system), and republish it
  • Sites that reproduce content feeds from other sites without providing some type of unique organization or benefit to the user
  • Sites dedicated to embedding content such as video, images, or other media from other sites without substantial added value to the user

It is important for a site displaying AdSense to offer significant value to the user by providing unique and relevant content, and not to place ads on auto-generated pages or pages with little to no original content.  Your site should also provide a good user experience through clear navigation and organization. Users should be able to easily click through your pages and find the information they are seeking.

So, it's not a question of the number of pages, it's the content that is contained within them. If you still ask me about how many pages required for Google Adsense, maybe in my humble opinion, I can say that 6 month worth of daily posts with original content is good for the start.

How to Add a XML Sitemap to Blogger (Blogspot) Blog

A site map is a list of pages of a web site accessible to users or crawlers. An XML Sitemap is a structured format to tells the search engine about the pages in your site, their relative importance to each other, and how often they are updated. The default XML sitemap file hosted on Blogger will have only the 26 most recent blog posts. There’s however a simple solution to fix the problem.

You don’t need to use sitemap generator. Just use this as your Blogger sitemap.

http://BLOGNAME.blogspot.com/atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=50000

Change BLOGNAME with your Blogspot subdomain name. Or, if you use your own domain on Blogger, just change whole domain “BLOGNAME.blogspot.com” with yours. I assume that maximum sitemap size in your Blogger is 50,000 posts, since maximum pages allowed in 1 sitemap file in Google is 50,000 pages, but you can change the limit with your own. But, if you are single poster with original content, it will be very hard to reach that amount of posts.

Air Traffic Jam in Jakarta Indonesia

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Jakarta (Tangerang, Banten) is busiest airport in Indonesia with more (or almost?) than 1000 take-off landing everyday. I just got picture posted by my friend Michael Sambur in his Facebook account when (maybe) he ready to take-off to somewhere.

air_traffic_jam
Air traffic jam not only happen in Indonesia. Changi Airport SIngapore as one of busiest hub in South East Asia also got air traffic jam. I ever fly from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Singapore (SIN) with Jetstar and when approaching SIngapore, pilot said that we will go around about 10 minutes waiting for landing queue. I was on the flight From Jakarta (CGK) to Yogyakarta (JOG) this year by Garuda Indonesia when we go around for about 30 minutes on the air and pilot said that it was because no parking slot available at the airport, so we wait for another aircraft to take-off. I ever on the taxiway for more than 40 minuter just wait to take-off for 50 minutes flight. That’s not included with traffic jam on the way to Jakarta airport that make me spend more than 3 hours on the road for just 40 km distance.

That was a lot of fuel burn. With fuel consumption is about 50 litres per minute for narrow body aircraft like Boeing 737-800 or Airbus A-320, 10 minutes delay on air will make airline spend more than USD 500 just to burn fuel. This is just for 1 aircraft with mid size. What happen if it’s more than 100 aircraft and with bigger size?

With risk of flight delays and cancellations are at an all-time high, I think the airport authority need to have more runway and more terminal building to serve more aircraft. Or maybe we just need more airport?

What Are the Limitations of a Blogger Account

I just convert my old blog from self-hosted Wordress to Blogger because it easier to maintenance and also free and I can use my own domain. After use Blogger for a while, I were wondering about about what a single Blogger / Blogspot account will hold. From their website, I got the following information.

Number of Blogs
Users can have multiple blogs in their account, but the limit is the user can have maximum up to 100 blogs per account.

Number of Posts
Blogger don't give limit on the number of posts on one blog. So you can write everything without fear that you will reach maximum posts. Anyway, blog posting that considered spam usually can make your website banned.

Size of Posts
Individual posts do not have a specific size limit, but very large posts may run you up against the page size limit. (See the next item.)

Size of Pages
Individual pages (the main page of your blog, or your archive pages) are limited to 1 MB in size. This will allow for a few hundred pages of text, but it may be a problem if you are listing hundreds of posts on the front page of your blog. If you hit this limit, you will see an error message saying "006 Please contact Blogger Support." You can get around this error by lowering the number of posts on your main page, which will have the added benefit of making your page load faster as well.

Number of Comments
A post can have any number of comments. As with archived posts, if you choose to hide comments on your blog, all pre-existing comments will remain saved on your account.

Number of Pictures
Up to 1 GB of total storage, shared with Picasa Web. You can get more space by buy addedd storage from Google.

Size of Pictures
I got no problem when tried to post with big images that more than 1 MB. But they said if you are posting pictures through Blogger Mobile there is a limit of 250K per picture.

Team Members
There is a limit of 100 members per blog.

Number of Labels
Up to 2000 unique labels per blog and 20 per post.

"About Me" Profile Information
Maximum of 1,200 characters.

Profile Interests and Favorites
Maximum of 2,000 characters in each field.

The conclusion, I don't too worry with the limitation, because from the history of my posts, since year 2005 I never reach more than 1000 blog posts.

How to Add Multiple Blogs to Windows Live Writer 2011

Windows Live Writer is easy tool to post blog content. It support almost all of blog system. It can manage multiple blog accounts, so blog owner can manage more than one blog in Windows Live Writer. I got Windows Live Writer by default in the installation of Windows 8, so I don’t need to install again.

To add blog, just go to File > Options > Accounts, or you can get the shortcut menu like in the picture bellow.

windows_live_writer_2011_opt

Next, I think the menu is intuitive. You can follow the next direction on Windows Live Writer. Happy blogging!

How to Setup Squid 3 With Basic Authentication on Debian/Ubuntu

I just want to create a server for my personal proxy server, and I want to use it anywhere so my IP for web access will not change even I move to another place.

From the manual, Squid can be configured to require a user and password in order to use it. We will use digest http auth. First, I install Squid and apache2-utils (to generate htdigest) as root.
# sudo su -
# apt-get install squid3
# apt-get install apache2-utils
Edit /etc/squid3/squid.conf, and put these lines:
auth_param digest program /usr/lib/squid3/digest_pw_auth -c /etc/squid3/passwords
auth_param digest realm proxy
acl authenticated proxy_auth REQUIRED
http_access allow authenticated
Then, create user by type this command:
# htdigest -c /etc/squid3/passwords proxy user
All done, and I enjoy squid with authentication.

Analysis on The Protection of Intangible Assets on The Start-up Companies in The Field of Information Technology in Indonesia

I wrote this tesis to meet most of the requirements achieve the degree of Bachelor of S-2 at Master of Economics of Development Program, Faculty of Economics And Business, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta.

Intangible assets are divided into identifiable intangible assets and unidentified intangible assets. Some intangible assets that can be identified include: trademarks, inventions or trade secrets, and copyrights, while some intangible assets that can not be identified is in goodwill and human assets. This study aims to analyze the protection of the intangible asset in start-up companies in the field of information technology in Indonesia.

The study was limited to the management of trademarks, patents and trade secrets, copyrights, goodwill, and human capital. The analysis showed that the protection of intangible assets in start-up companies in the field of information technology was conducted, but has not been fully implemented, because there are several factors that are considered important but not yet implemented by the companies.

Business firms should optimize the protection of intangible assets owned, as an intangible asset is an important asset in the company based on information technology. The government also needs to provide adequate socialization regarding intellectual property rights to the start-up companies in the field of new information technologies is established. In addition, the process of registration of intellectual property rights should be more easy and can be done at a reasonable cost.

Personal Review of Airports in Papua

Papua have many locations that isolated from sea, without land road to reach some areas. The main vehicle to reach some area is using airplane. This is some airport in Papua visited by me.

Dekai Airport (DEK)
Dekai airport also known as Nop Goliath airport is airport located in Yahukimo Regency, Papua. This airport length is about 1200 m with asphalt surface. The biggest aircraft that landed to this airport is Trigana Air with ATR-42 and ATR-72 aircaft. The main problem of this aircraft is, there is no airport fence so anywone can pass runway at operating hours. The airport also doesn't have ATC (Air Traffic Control). The airport also doesn't have fire fighter in case of emergency in the airport. The airport also doesn't have runway light.

Wamena Airport (WMX)
Wamena airport is main hub of central Papua. With runway lenght more than 1825 m, the biggest aircraft that can landed to this airport is Boeing 737-300. This aircraft have ATC to control traffic, and have firefighter in case of emergency. The problem is there is no airport permanent buliding because of fire in 2011. Passengers boarding from temporary waiting room.

For smaller aircraft there are so many airstrips in villages and districts, with lenght about 600-800 m, some of them with grass surface. Of course the airstrips have very minimal safety.

Work at Home or Work at Office?

In the early of March 2013, Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer's called all staf to work at office instead of remote working from home. This decission bring many debates over the internet. Some agree but some refused the policy.

From The Free Dictionary, the definition of office:

1. a. A place in which business, clerical, or professional activities are conducted. b. The administrative personnel, executives, or staff working in such a place.

The definition of home is:

1. A place where one lives; a residence.
2. The physical structure within which one lives, such as a house or apartment.
3. A dwelling place together with the family or social unit that occupies it; a household.

Sometimes, work at office dan bring stress to employee maybe they face traffic jam or other disturbance on the way to office. Work at home also have own problem, when employee live in small house, doesn't have private room, and there are kids running around the house and make noise.

I have friends work remotelly not from home, but sometimes at public place such as cafe with wifi connection. From my own perception, having sometime together in a place as a team is important, but that doesn't need to be everyday.

Use a Web Hosting Server to Backup Data from the Hard Drive?

One of things on digital file management is about how to make the data secure and safe. Data storage (hardisk, CD, flash disk) always have MTBF (mean time between failures). Store data in one place is also risky. What if there is disaster like fire, earthquake, flood that can destroy anything include our data? But how can afford data storage service with cheap pricing?

There are many hosting providers that give unlimited space and bandwidth with cheap price as low as 1 USD per month. They also have daily backup for data that stored in their server but with some condition (amount of file and size of data). But, are they reliable? Robyn Peterson have the bad experience.

From my own perception, the answer for "It's good to use a web hosting server to backup data from the hard drive?" is NO. Web hosting is intended to use for hosting website data, not for data storage.

Use provider that specialized on data backup or data storage service. For pay per use service, you can use Rackspace Cloud Files, Amazon S3 or Amazon Glaciers, Softlayer Object Storage, and Google Cloud Storage. For unlimited service with fixed pricing, you can consider using Mozy, Carbonite, Live Drive, and other similar services.

CDN That Support Mobile Detection and Redirect

Mobile detection and redirect is important for websites that have different platform or design for dekstop based and mobile application. When website traffic is going to very high, the load of servers also will be very hight. For sites hosted at shared hosting, it will be problem, because of limited resources provided by hosting company. Even sites hosted with dedicated servers or in cloud or VPS, it will need high performace instance.

The solution to handle high traffic is CDN (Content Delivery Network). But, the major CDN provided do not support mobile detection and redirect, so it will make new problem for webmaster that need mobile detection and redirect. After search for some providers, I got CDN providers that support mobile redirection.

Akamai AQUA Mobile Detection and Redirect
Akamai is the best CDN because they have servers around the world. The main problem is it's very hard to sign up for Akamai service for small websites, and some said that they have expensive pricing compared with other CDN provider. But, I must said that Akamai is Rolls Royce of CDN.

Cloudflare Mobile Redirect Service
The mobile redirect service automatically redirects mobile device visitors to a mobile-optimized subdomain home page. The service is limited to any domain on any paid plan (Pro, Business or Enterprise) which signed up directly through CloudFlare.

World's Greatest Extra at Godaddy Commercial

Supermodel Bar Refaeli big kiss? As Godaddy customer personally it's too weird for me to see the Godaddy commercial launched at 31 January 2013. Who are the actor? After a little bit search with keyword "World's Greatest Extra" I got that the actor was Jesse Heiman. He's been an extra in basically every movie and TV show ever, and his large frame, glasses, curly hair are totally nondescript.

About Godaddy? I just think that Godaddy better to improve their service rather than create nerd ads.

How to Enable Amazon AWS EC2 PTR Record or Reverse DNS

Reverse DNS needed because server need to be authenticated when sending email or for SSL transaction. The problem for the PTR in Amazon AWS EC2 is when we do query on IP for example 54.251.45.209 the record will return:

209.45.251.54.in-addr.arpa. 300 IN PTR ec2-54-251-45-209.ap-southeast-1.compute.amazonaws.com.

On Amazon Web Service, they provide ability to get PTR record by fill form Request to Remove Email Sending Limitations on their website. Just fill the form and give explanation and good reason. The customer representative will contact you shortly in 2-3 days regarding your request. Good luck!
