What Are the Limitations of a Blogger Account

I just convert my old blog from self-hosted Wordress to Blogger because it easier to maintenance and also free and I can use my own domain. After use Blogger for a while, I were wondering about about what a single Blogger / Blogspot account will hold. From their website, I got the following information.

Number of Blogs
Users can have multiple blogs in their account, but the limit is the user can have maximum up to 100 blogs per account.

Number of Posts
Blogger don't give limit on the number of posts on one blog. So you can write everything without fear that you will reach maximum posts. Anyway, blog posting that considered spam usually can make your website banned.

Size of Posts
Individual posts do not have a specific size limit, but very large posts may run you up against the page size limit. (See the next item.)

Size of Pages
Individual pages (the main page of your blog, or your archive pages) are limited to 1 MB in size. This will allow for a few hundred pages of text, but it may be a problem if you are listing hundreds of posts on the front page of your blog. If you hit this limit, you will see an error message saying "006 Please contact Blogger Support." You can get around this error by lowering the number of posts on your main page, which will have the added benefit of making your page load faster as well.

Number of Comments
A post can have any number of comments. As with archived posts, if you choose to hide comments on your blog, all pre-existing comments will remain saved on your account.

Number of Pictures
Up to 1 GB of total storage, shared with Picasa Web. You can get more space by buy addedd storage from Google.

Size of Pictures
I got no problem when tried to post with big images that more than 1 MB. But they said if you are posting pictures through Blogger Mobile there is a limit of 250K per picture.

Team Members
There is a limit of 100 members per blog.

Number of Labels
Up to 2000 unique labels per blog and 20 per post.

Limited to 500 characters, with no HTML. Adding additional characters or HTML may cause it to revert to a previous setting.

"About Me" Profile Information
Maximum of 1,200 characters.

Profile Interests and Favorites
Maximum of 2,000 characters in each field.

The conclusion, I don't too worry with the limitation, because from the history of my posts, since year 2005 I never reach more than 1000 blog posts.

Paid Review Cost and Fees

I used to get lots of email to review products and websites, and most of them are paid review. I tried some of them, but after few times, I felt that paid review sometimes make my review is unfair because make me stand up on the side of the payer.

How much usually advertiser willing to pay for the review? They will pay for about $5 to thousands dollars based on traffic and credibility of the website. I love the natural blog universe, where people give review for product without need to be paid, so the reviewer can give balanced rating to the product based on their own experience.

Sukhoi Superjet 100 Missing at Indonesia on Demo Flight

Sukhoi-Superjet-100-Halim-Perdanakusuma

I was at Jayapura, Papua (9th May, 2012) when heard the news about Sukhoi aircraft missing in Indonesia. In my first imagination, the missing airplane should be a fighter jet owned by Indonesian Air Force. But, after read the aircraft type Sukhoi Superjet 100, then I remembered that this is a regional jet for civil aviation.

I still sad with many accident on pioneer flights in Papua last year, and I just hope the aircraft and passengers will be found as soon as possible :(

How to Monetize Mobile Website Traffic

From my previous post about increase of mobile traffic to some of my websites, mobile traffic is the future of internet, and the future is now.

With the new technology and capability of smart phone, it's possible to add multimedia ads (picture, sound) in mobile website or blog. From my personal experience, I use Admob (then migrated to Google Adsense), and Inmobi to monetize the mobile website traffic. The revenue of mobile web traffic is about 10% compared by regular traffic, but I think it's better than no revenue at all. Beside that, provide mobile interface is good way to engage with your potential customers.

The next problem now, some mobile browsing technology use their own proxy, so many users with same browser come from the same IP address. For example, mobile users with Opera Mini and Blackberry (BIS), their access is identified come from Opera and Blackberry gateway, and Inmobi and Adsense won't show ads from the Opera Mini and Blackberry (BIS) visitors. So, the next question is: how to monetize Opera Mini and Blackberry traffic?

Increase of Mobile Traffic

Most people around me now use smartphone with internet connection. When I checked the data from my websites that have mobile interface, in the begin of this month I got data that make me surprised. The visitors to my website is dropped in the significant amount. After I checked again, our visitor is increased, but the portion of mobile users is increased with 42 percent of mobile visitors.

The next problem is, mobile visitors rarely click the ads in the website, so the revenue from advertising dropped. But this is the future! People go mobile and everything should can to accessed by mobile devices.

Who is Keenan Cahill? Wikipedia Please!

Keenan CahillWhen I hear about lip sync on Youtube, I always remember Moymoy Palaboy (Filipino) and Shinta-Jojo (Indonesia). When people searched them in my website, I don't have many clue about Keenan Cahill.

Keenan is a Guy from Elmhurst, Illinois. A suburb of Chicago, that has a disease that stops him form growing. his videos went viral on youtube making him an international hit. He is known for lipsyncing and dancing to videos made by famous pop stars. He is characterized as a very 'cute' kid. He had brain surgery early 2010 and recently lip-synced with 50 cent. Keenan Cahill states on his YouTube bio that he is 15 years old. He was born in 1995. Keenan Cahill is famous on YouTube for posting lip syncs of popular songs like Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream."

The moral story from him? Everyone is special! Keenan give me example that everyone can be famous by Internet, no matter with whatever your condition. So, always think positive with your life!

How to Change Wordpress Permalink Without Lost Backlinks

I created this website using Wordpress since 2003. From the beginning, I change some features in the website, including upgrade the Wordpress engine. I also use this website as my personal lab. I tested all features in the web and try to figure out how to optimize them.

Then I tried to change permalinks. I just want to change my permanent link like:

http://www.wahyu.com/2005/10/11/me-procrastination/
to
http://www.wahyu.com/me-procrastination.html

The problem is, some of my friends already linked to my post, so I can lost my back links. Then after search some resources, I got the way to change permalinks without lost backlinks.

I change the setting in my wordpress at menu Settings - Permalinks

Permalink Setting Wordpress

I use 301 redirect by changing .htaccess:

RedirectMatch 301 /([0-9]+)/([0-9]+)/([0-9]+)/(.*)/$ /$4.html

You can try them using your current setting. But be careful to backup your .htaccess, so you can recover them when something wrong.

Pay per Facebook Like, Pay Per Tweet or Retweet: A Social Commercialization

Retweet ButtonAt 2001, my mailbox full of email advertising that delivered from may sources. That are first spam on the Internet for me. And then, SEO spam. I wondering how people create every way to increase rank of their website with content that just a crap. Copy from another sources and create auto generated content.

In the social networking era, then spamming still grow in another way. For example, I got so many friend request in Facebook, then finally after they become my friend then tag anything they sell, like clothes, watches, cars, and so many things. That's crazy!

I just check in some website that they offers pay per 'fan' or pay per 'like' on Facebook pages. Or pay per member in Facebook groups. That's also crazy!

Twitter, as one of social networking tools got a lot of bot that create so many spam things. Because, it's very easy to join Twitter, somebody then create bot to make a fake profile with fake followers. Then they commercialize their account for pay per tweet. They got more money per tweet when they have more follower. But, did the advertisers ever check how many of the followers actually read the tweet by check the number of retweets or replies? Or just check the number of followers? For me, good twitter users are the users that have high quantity and high quality followers. I'm not good one. I got little followers and some of them just a bot.

Now, someone is informing me about pay per retweet. So, what the hell is it? Then social media contaminates with junk and garbage contents that generated by bot or human with unnatural behavior. Don't waste your money for the garbage! I support for natural and good behavior of social networking!

Upgrading Akismet

I just upgrade my Akismet plugin to version 2.5.1. But after update them, I got messages from the system:

Akismet has detected a problem. A server or network problem prevented Akismet from checking 1 comment. It has been temporarily held for moderation and will be automatically re-checked in 13 mins.

Then I got so many email containing SPAM comment waiting for moderation. Maybe I have problem with my hosting server or Akismet server have some problem, but after check in Akismet Configuration menu, it said that All Akismet servers are available. After did searching in Google, I got that some users got same problem. So, that not just my problem.

Akismet is working correctly. All servers are accessible.
Akismet server Network Status
66.135.58.62 Accessible
66.135.58.61 Accessible
72.233.69.89 Accessible
72.233.69.88 Accessible

I just think that we have problem with the server, but after 24 hours the problem gone. Still don't know why...

Travelling Without Leave a Job

When I visited Thailand in last month (Nov, 2010) for Thailand Medical Tourism blog Contest, the finalist split into 6 groups. My group is with Malaysian blogger, Wilson, from placesandfoods.com. He travel around the world. But currently he is working at Focus Image Televideo, an advertising company in Malaysia (psstt.. it's a family-owned company).

Wilson and myself are example of part-time traveler, but with our business, we still able to travel around the world. So, what is the idea behind this? You still can travel around the world and still have a job! I mean that this is formal job, not like a freelance job.

The main key is: find the company that give you flexibility to travel around. Off course it good when you have job that give bonus free travel when you have an achievement. Consultant, sales and marketing, manager are some jobs that usually give travel bonus from the achievement.

Or if you prefer to traveling but still in the job area, you can be a technical support in international company. Sometimes you should travel around the world to do field support. My friend is working at offshore oil company and can travel around the world, because the company give 1 month on field and then 1 month for holiday!

Long Journey From Yogyakarta to Bangkok

When I said long journey, I'm not in hyperbolic speech. This is true long journey. After selected as one of Thailand Medical Tourism Blog Contest finalists, I got airline ticket to flying from Yogyakarta on Sunday, 21th Nov 2010 using Garuda Indonesia connecting with Singapore Airlines.

FYI, flying from Yogyakarta to Jakarta take about 55 minutes. Using car need about 12 hours, and using executive train need about 8-10 hours.

Adisutjipto Airport authority already operated the aiport again today (20th Nov 2010 12.00 GMT+7) after closed for more than 2 weeks after Merapi volcano eruption.

Then, Garuda contact me and said that the flight is cancelled. So I went to Garuda office to get re-schedule, but this is weekend, and all seats fully booked. Despite of gambling with airport and weather condition, I decided to get a train ticket.

Once again, queue in the ticketing office at Tugu Train Station Yogyakarta is very long because many people change their transportation from airplane to other alternatives (car, bus, and train).

Thanks to PT Kereta Api, because we can book and buy ticket online, so I bought one. Now, I'm on the way to Jakarta, and I hope everything is okay so I can arrive to Bangkok on time.

For more information about my trip to Bangkok you can visit http://medblogcontest.com/blog/5/.

Did We Met Celebrities at Pesta Blogger Jogja 2010?

Logo Pesta Blogger 2010 Jogja

Pesta Blogger (Blogger Party) Jogja has been held at 8-9th October 2010. With "celebrating diversity" as main topic, this blogger party put together online and offline community to be unite.

Maybe you know Herman Saksono (with his unfamous scandal), Shrivastava Agatha (Mbakdos), Ronny Agung Rahmanto (Ronny Lantip, nearly-insane web designer/programmer), Atika N (Tikabanget, TK-25256 with 'ituh' posting), Thomas Arie Setiawan (one of first bloggers from Yogyakarta), Nurudin Jauhari (with his online revenue), and other persons who attend Jogja Blogger Party 2010.

The fun thing at the party is someone said to me that he met celebrities at Pesta Blogger. From world dictionary I got the meaning of celebrity:
celebrity — n , pl -ties
1. a famous person: a show-business celebrity 2. fame or notoriety

From Wikipedia:
A celebrity (sometimes referred to as a celeb in popular culture) is easily recognized in a society or culture. Generally speaking, a celebrity is someone who gets media attention and shows an extroverted personality.
Wikipedia support my thesis that most people at Pesta Blogger Jogja 2010 are celebrities, because most of them are easily recognized in blogger society. Maybe taxy driver at Jombor Bus Station near my house did not recognize them, but people in the blogger community may know them and became fans or follower.

Computer have screen like TV. Our unconscius mind maybe have 'automatic consideration' that every person that shown at TV screen are celebrity. Internet already make history that person can be famous just posting something unique content on the Internet. From Yogyakarta we have Tony Blank (prolove separatos!) with his video on the internet (I regret he did not come at the blogger party).

So, why did you not write on a blog or create someting valuable in the internet to be a celebrities? However, thanks to a committee of the party who've worked hard for the success of this event. Great job!

Thanks to XL123, Global Intermedia, BlogDetik, Plasa, SPBU 44.551.11, IDWebhost, Ganti Baju, Dagadu, Bakoel Tiket, Centro, Petak Umpet, Joglo Mlati, Kedai Kopi, Pino Jaket and other sponsors that support the committee.

Flood Disaster and Memory of Wasior, Teluk Wondama

I received the sad news that Wasior hit by flash floods at Monday, October 4th 2010. Flood destroyed almost all infrastructure and killed more than 100 people. Nearly 4,000 residents were evacuated to Manokwari and Nabire.

I once visited Wasior in 2006. At that time they're starting to build the infrastructure, because Teluk Wondama (Wondama Gulf) is a New Regency. Wasior is a place with beautiful sea views with a backdrop of mountains near Nabire. Wasior can be reached by ship from Manokwari with about 15 hours. Wasior has a harbor that could accommodate large ships from PELNI. This place also has its own airport which can be reached by small aircraft (Twin Otter, Pilatus Porter, Cessna Grand Caravan) from Airport Rendani, Manokwari with about 40 minutes.

I pray that Wasior will soon recover and I am sorry for the victims of flood disasters. Here are my photo memories when visited Wasior at end of year 2006.

Medical Tourism in Southeast Asia

Medical Tourism
I have friend who regularly go to overseas to get medical treatment. In the tourism sector, it called medical tourism. Medical tourism is practice of travelling across international borders to obtain health care. In the Southeast Asia, there are some countries that provide health-care for foreigner, including: Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, and Singapore.

I want to review one of developing country that provide medical tourism. Thailand is a good example, because they offer world class services with reasonable rate. Treatments for medical tourists in Thailand range from cosmetic, organ transplants, cardiac, and orthopaedic treatments to dental and cardiac surgeries. Treatments for tourist also include spa, physical and mental therapies.

The main challenge for countries that provide medical tourism is accreditation. The medical service provider should obtain good reputation with international standard, so the patients can enjoy the service without fear of malpractice because the physicians hold professional certification.
