Everything in the Internet and Mobile Communication are Very Fast

I aware that everything in internet and mobile communication world is very fast and almost without border. Not just years, months, days, or hours, the information and decision can be judged in the minutes or even seconds. A day in internet world mean expired for some people.

Remember Herman Saksono case? After he caught, then in few minutes and few hours, the huge amounts of information and support came accross the nations via weblog and also via messenger.

Few hours after that, Mas Priyadi, also got information via slanderous SMS to his cellphone, in just few time after the SMS created by unknown people.

The information that spreaded almost likely a chain letter. In traditional method they use paper and need few time (days or months) to delivered. In internet and mobile communication it can easily forwarded to anyone in just seconds.

Let me try with my own raw (fake?) count:

If each people forward a message or information to 3 next person, and ignore the possibility of the information sent to same person, and consider that no one not forward the message, then:

Level 1 : 3
Level 2 : 3 x 3 = 9
Level 3 : 3 x 3 x 3 = 27
Level 4 : 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 = 81
Level 5 : 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 = 243
Level 6 : 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 = 729
Level 7 : 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 = 2187
Total count: 3279 person

Think with this:

  • If use conventional letter, assumed a day delivery, to spread information to 3279 person need 7 days.

  • With email, assumed 5 minutes delivery, to spread information to 3279 person need 35 minutes.

  • With instant messenger or SMS, assumed 1 minutes delivery, to spread information to 3279 person need 7 minutes.

I aware that the counts above is too good to be true, beacuse there is so many things that can make the chained information undelivered or get delay on delivery process:

  • Problem of delivery and sometime information lost in the way

  • Recipient not read the message, or reject the message

  • Recipient not forward information to another person

  • The information re-sent to same person

This information of course should tested to make it valid, but anyway, I just want describe how fast infromation spreaded via the Internet and mobile devices.

oh there's more: information in digital format doesn't get lost or distorted when being copied even multiple times. unlike written letter or verbal communication for instance.

:)
